2025 U.S. National 24 Hour Qualification Standards and List of Current Qualifiers

The International Association of Ultrarunners has announced that the 2025 IAU World 24-Hour Championship will be held in Albi, France on October 25, 2025.
 
The United States 24-Hour National Team will compete in the 2025 International Association of Ultrarunners (IAU) 24-Hour World Championship under the patronage of World Athletics on October 25, 2025 in Albi, France. The United States will be represented by the USATF 24-Hour Team of up to six men and six women ultramarathon runners. The Team will be selected by the Executive Committee USATF Mountain, Ultra, and Trail Council (MUT), which was established in 1998 to help USATF administer ultrarunning in the United States, based on the following criteria:

• Qualifying Window: October 25, 2023 – May 26, 2025 (race start date). This is Memorial Day weekend in 2025, so a runner could start their 24H qualifying race on Monday, May 26 and finish on Tuesday, May 27. In this case, the event would be a legitimate qualifying race.
• Team Selection: Tuesday and Wednesday, May 27-28, 2025
• Team Announced: Thursday, May 29, 2025

Standards for Consideration to the 2025 U.S. National 24-Hour Team 

To be considered for the USA 24-Hour National Team, runners must be citizens of the United States of America, be current USATF members, and meet one of the following qualification standards and other eligibility requirements.

1. Athletes who place in the top 3 (gold, silver, or bronze medal position) at the 2023 IAU World 24-Hour Championship will receive automatic selection to the 2025 Championship assuming the total distance achieved is greater than
   1. Male: 145 miles (233.348 km)
   2. Female: 130 miles (209.209 km)
2. The winner of the 2024 U.S. National 24-Hour Championship, if contested, will receive automatic selection to the 2025 World Championship, providing the runner achieves the minimum distance of
   2. Male: 145 miles (233.348 km)
   2. Female: 130 miles (209.209 km)
3. Minimum standards for consideration (through remaining criteria):
   1. Male: 140 miles (225.308 km)
   2. Female: 125 miles (201.168 km)
4. If there are fewer than 6 men or 6 women meeting the qualifying standards for selection accepting team positions, then and only then will consideration be given to athletes with noteworthy performances at distances of 100 miles or greater.
5. In an effort to fill all men’s and women’s positions, if all criteria listed above do not fill the 24 hour US teams, to include up to 3 men’s and 3 women’s alternates, the committee reserves the right to fill the remaining positions on resumes submitted.

FOR CONSIDERATION FOR QUALIFICATION

1. Events must be USATF-certified for distance (or NGB) (or equivalent for international races) or provide survey certificate for track events.
2. Events must be USATF-sanctioned (USATF Rules upheld) (or equivalent for international races) — including, but not limited to, 144.3 (Assistance to Athletes) and 163.6 (a) (Leaving the Track, Field, or Course). Note: under revised USATF rules, athletes running in close proximity to one another is not considered assistance.
3. Lap recording to USATF and World Athletics standards must be documented and provided.
4. Qualifying marks must take place in bona fide competitions. (Refer to USATF Rule Book 262.3 (a), where “Qualifying” may be interchanged with “Record”.)

Note to athletes and RDs: Be sure if you want to host an event in which athletes qualify OR if you are an athlete that wishes to qualify that the event meets the guidelines for consideration.
 
All athletes must be current USATF members, U.S. citizens, and have a passport valid through April 25, 2026. 
 
Team uniforms will be provided by USATF. If an athlete qualifies for the team but cannot make the trip due to injury or any other circumstance, the uniform must be returned to USATF. 
 
All team members must sign the USATF statement of conditions and be safe sport compliant (i.e. complete the US Center for Safe Sport program)
 
Team members will receive funding from USA Track & Field and the LOC with the exact reimbursement amount TBA. We do know that this team will not be fully funded with these resources.
